Local Facilities

Grantham and neighboring villages are a part of Lincolnshire, the fourth largest county in England. Whether you are interested in sports, clubs, outdoor activities, art, heritage sites and more, there is something for everyone just in this local area.

Local Sports

The Meres Leisure Centre (local sports club) hosts a variety of classes, for example:

  • Golf at the De Vere Belton Woods Hotel
    For all you golf-enthusiasts! A true golfers paradise, De Vere Belton Woods is home to the Midland PGA Championship Tournament.
Grantham Meres Leisure Centre

The Meres Leisure Centre also hosts two swimming pools, flume, main sports hall, climbing wall, small hall, table tennis centre, health & fitness facilities, meeting room, turf pitches, football (soccer) facilities, athletics track, and tennis courts.

Activities include: Health & Fitness, aerobics, step aerobics, step & Tone, circuit training, conditioning classes, swimming, badminton, football (soccer), basketball, table tennis, climbing, tennis, and yoga.

If the 117 acres of park and woodland at Harlaxton are not enough ...

  • Queen Elizabeth Park
    Seasonal availability and access to fishing pond and picnic areas, also includes a conservation pond and floral conservation areas.
  • Wyndham Park
    Offers an outdoor paddling pool, 2 bowling green, 2 hard tennis courts, golf putting courses, children’s play area, flower and shrub beds, and a boating lake
  • Dysart Park
    Offers an outdoor paddling pool, a bowling green, a hard tennis court, golf putting course, children’s play area, bandstand (brass band concerts in summer), and flower and shrub beds.
  • Riverside Walk
    This is an informal walkway that extends from the north of Manthorpe Road to Dysart Park beside the River Witham for 2.5 miles.  This pass through the town’s three public parks and other areas of grass and open space.

Entertainment

Local entertainment venues include:

  • Guildhall Arts Centre
    This site offers information for participating in (or attending) events and shows (comedy, drama, music, and dance).  Regular workshops are also hosted by the Centre.
  • Paragon Cinema
    Nottingham (a relatively inexpensive, 30 minute train ride from Grantham) which releases first-run movies in the UK.

Eating Out

Generations of Harlaxton alumni remember with fondness Hop Sing’s Tudor House Chinese Restaurant at 21 Westgate in Grantham, and some make a pilgrimage there when they return.  But there are many different places to eat out, including quite a few fish-n-chips shops, international eat-in/take-away/delivery, and pub-style food!  Here is just a short list of the places you can find in the area:
