Semester or Summer?

There are several ways to enjoy the 'Harlaxton Experience', right here in our astonishing 153-room manor house in “real England”, but you need to plan ahead to ensure a good fit with your programme of academic study.

Should you come for a regular semester, a summer school or as part of a faculty led summer programme?   Only you can decide, based on many factors in your personal and academic life.  But we hope the following will assist you in your decision.

Regular Semester

Most students choose to study at Harlaxton College for a single semester; normally in their sophomore or junior year.

Harlaxton's broad based curriculum allows students from most majors to choose a semester at Harlaxton which complements their field of study and, very often, helps fulfil several General Education requirements.

Studying for a full 16 week semester allows students to take full advantage of all the travel, cultural immersion and personal growth opportunities that an extended study abroad experience can offer.

We encourage all prospective students to plan ahead and discuss a semester long study abroad opportunity at Harlaxton College with their advisor and/or Study Abroad Office as early as possible in their academic career.

We encourage you to explore our web site but would particularly encourage you to visit the following pages:

  • Academic Calendar and Courses
We endeavor to publish our curricula at least a year in advance to help you plan.
  • Travel Opportunities
The travel possibilities whilst at Harlaxton are endless; indeed the the opportunity to travel is probably the #1 reason most students choose a semester abroad at Harlaxton.
  • Student Life
Harlaxton isn't just about study and travel; student life and activities offer rich possibilities too.
  • Harlac's Tongue
Why not subscribe to the Harlaxton Blog. This is probably the best way to experience life at Harlaxton without actually being here.

Not all students are able (or want) to study at Harlaxton College for a regular semester and, for many, a Summer School or Summer Programme at Harlaxton is a good alternative.

Summer School

Harlaxton College offers a 5 week summer school each year and, like our regular semesters, we offer a broad curriculum and several travel opportunities. Often courses are tailored to allow a 'touring' theme with classroom academics and field trips being used to produce an intensive programme of study.

Summer Programmes

From the beginning of May until mid-August each year the College hosts a variety of residential groups. The participants may be diverse in experience, nationality and background, but all live for a while in this beautiful Manor, have classes in unique surroundings and enjoy course related travel.

  • Summer Programmes
Summer Programmes are faculty led and will vary in terms of course content and duration. This link will give you an idea of the possible - why don't you encourage your favourite professor to contact us!
