Renovation Projects

This page gives details various renovation projects recently completed. The University of Evansville (owners of Harlaxton Manor) have shown a strong committment to the preservation and restoration of this unique house, as havesucessive Principals:

  • Dr. Graddon Rowlands (1977-1989), graduate of Cambridge and Duke Universities, and his energetic wife Pam Rowlands, began major restoration works at Harlaxton Manor.
  • Dr. Robert Stepsis (1992-2002), graduate of Havard University, oversaw improvements in the physical plant, including a new heating system and renewal of most roof structures of the Manor.
  • Dr. Gordon Kingsley (2003-), with his wife Suzanne, began a broad program of further improvements in the Manor and Grounds, and have been particularly sucessfull in securing some major renovation gifts. Work was recently completed on our Conservatory and will soon begin on the Halfway House (Gate House).

Roof and High Level Stonework

Phases 1-3 (part of an ongoing five phase project to maintain the fabric of Harlaxton Manor) provided essential weather protection to the vast majority of roof areas. The Heating Project provided an increase in capacity, control and efficiency (5% energy savings) whilst ensuring that we can now better meet the needs of residents.

None of these projects would have been possible via the operational budget, indeed their Campaign funding has allowed the College to use operational funds for other capital purchases; for example Student Computing.

The plan and descriptions below, link to a series of photographs detailing the work undertaken to date. We hope you find them interesting.
