Student Government Association (SGA)

What is SGA and why is it important?

Student life is a very important element in the Harlaxton Experience. Student Government Association is an active group of students on campus, planning events throughout the semester with the support of the Student Affairs Office. SGA meets almost every week and includes five committees who are responsible for planning many student-led events. There are endless possibilities for event planning.

What are the committees?

  • The Bistro Committee plans all the bistro parties and events ranging from coffee house hours, open mic nights, theme parties with prizes and contests.
  • The Special Events Committee plans student events like the Talent Show, Movie Nights, Sir Harlaxton, Murder Mystery Party, various trips to movie premieres or destinations, and much more.
  • The Sports Committee plans intramural games such as football/soccer, cricket, ultimate frisbee, dart tournaments, and even a night game of Capture the Flag.
  • The Food Committee meets with our catering department to offer them "food feedback".
  • The Yearbook Committee meets independently of SGA, but has a representative during the general SGA meetings. A yearbook is produced each semester by a group of students. The Yearbook Committee is advised by the Student Affairs Office.

How can you be involved?

SGA elections are held in the first two weeks of classes. After elections the committees are formed on a voluntary basis. You don't have to serve in an office or on a committee to be involved. Meetings are open to all Harlaxton students and anyone can help organize events and enjoy the fun!

There are a variety of possibilities. No semester is alike, as each student group can decide what events they would like to plan. You can always contribute to the Harlaxton Experience and make it unique for your own semester.
